Purpose

The Greater Nashville Music Census is a grassroots not for profit initiative organized to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Nashville-area music community. The Census will capture key information about our Nashville music economy to help the city and community make better informed, data-driven decisions to support our music ecosystem moving forward. As of March 1st 2024 the Census is officially open and live for three weeks! We are now calling on everyone 18+ that identifies as being a part of the Nashville Music industry/ecosystem to participate and spread the word!

Why did we do this?

There is wide ranging concern over the direction Nashville's music ecosystem is headed, and how many of its members are being left behind amidst our city's tremendous economic growth. We need data to help back up many of these assumptions and drive real policy solutions that help nurture, protect, and grow all parts of our music ecosystem. Also, there is a national cohort of 20 other cities doing the same thing, so this presents a wonderful opportunity for us all to share data, best practices, and solutions with each other! Rising tides lift all ships.

Who did this census survey?

The census surveyed anyone who identifies as being a part of the Nashville music industry.  It also cast a wide net throughout the Greater Nashville region, which included the 14 counties in and around Nashville. As prices have soared in Nashville in recent years, many within our music industry have migrated to surrounding counties where the cost of living may remain more affordable, so we feel it paramount that the geographic region truly reflects the current landscape.
